Mary J. Blige says her Burger King Commercial was Unfinished!

Burger King Franchise has launched a mutli million dollar ad campaign which features celebrities such as David Beckham, Jay Leno,  Salma Hayek in the fast food restaurant in hopes of reviving revenue.  The fast food chain, who is currently losing to its competitors, is receiving backlash for the Mary J. Blige spot.

In the commercial, the Grammy winning singer is on top of a table, singing about a crispy chicken sandwich.  Some people felt teh commercial has racial undertones, and that it perpetuates the stereotype of black women singing about fried chicken.

Burger King has pulled the commercial from its YouTube page.

The Queen of Hip Hop/Soul has also received backlash from her fans, who were unsure why Mary would agree to partake in a commercial.  Some felt that she sold out for money instead of thinking how this commercial would affect its African American viewers. But Mary says the commercial was unfinished and shouldn't have been released.

Mary explained to Advertising Age: “I agreed to be a part of a fun and creative campaign that was supposed to feature a dream sequence. Unfortunately, that’s not what was happening in that clip, so I understand my fans being upset by what they saw. But, if you’re a Mary fan, you have to know I would never allow an unfinished spot like the one you saw to go out.”

Burger King initially said it pulled the ad due to "music licensing issues", but BK has gone on to further their explanation telling Advertising Age: {we are} in the “process of re-editing the spot” to include the dream sequence. Burger King blames a “lapse in communication” that caused the ad to air on “very limited rotation on local TV” before it was pulled.
